Title
A Pastiche of Un Bar Aux Folies Bergere by Edouard Manet
Artist
Rusty Gladdish
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas Board
Description
This is a Pastiche of a cropped detail of Edouard Manet's famous painting of the barmaid behind the bar at the Folies Begere. I have imitated some of the features in the painting but to avoid controversy I have deliberately omitted her reflection and presented the entire picture as though it were a scene from the opera or the ballet during the interval. (Sans Mirror!) Manet's original painting, ( which hangs in the Courtauld Institute in London) has always been the subject of much discussion regarding the position and persepctive of the barmaid's reflection and of the man she seems to be serving. The face I have painted is that of a local female bar tender here in Provence instead of Suzon who worked behind the bar at the Foilies Begere in the early 1880s!!

Thank you Nelly!! We have spent a great deal of time in France the last few years. Usually Paris and Provence. Lots of inspiration for new paintings! Have a great weekend!

wow, what a gorgeous work! (and memories for me, my best girlfriend was working in the Folies Bergère when I lived in Paris... we were young and started to discover the world... )

Eduouard Manet painted a lot of splendid artworks. Among them I do like this "UN BAR AUX FOLIES-BERGERE" (1882). And YOU challenged him to remake his artwork. YOU did quite well using your original point of view. ----------- Taikan

Greetings from Provence in France. Thank you Taikan for looking at my Pastiche of Manet's painting. I love painting Pastiches from the old masters because I learn so much about technique and I like to adapt them to my own painting style! Have a great week!
