Rapid watercolour sketch en plein air on a sunny but windy day. The light kept changing so quickly with the movement of the clouds. I hope to turn this sketch into a larger oil painting at some point!
I am a painter who writes stories and poems in between pictures. Painting began as a hobby, transmogrified into a therapy and finally emerged as an obssession. I am a self taught 'Outsider Artist' and an instinctive painter and colourist. I paint my dreams and whatever comes into my imagination. I also enjoy painting portraits. The whole of one's life is to be found in the face. The eyes and the mouth tell all. I have a passionate interest in art history and have been influenced by the Renaissance, Caravaggio, the much maligned Impressionists, the Fauvists (especially Matisse) and the Pre-Raphaelites ( to name but a few!!!). My paintings are hanging in private collections in America, Australia, France, Spain, Amsterdam, Turkey,...

Hello Rusty. I appreciate very much your works, specially the one you call LA PLAGE. As I read in your biography, you are very stinctive painter and that is a vertue. As I use to say, on painting we discover ourselves. The more we paint the more we know about ourselves. The more we paint the more we are near to simplicity. Thanks for your kind words about my work. Let's keep in touch.
Rusty Gladdish replied:
Thank you for your lovely comments on my artwork. I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend!

this beauty reminds me of my childhood at the beach in Florida with my sisters... we would do exactly what these children are doing...the magic of art, it can take us forward or backwards or arrest us............
Rusty Gladdish replied:
Belated thanks Gregory! Have a great weekend!XX

Bonjour Rusty! J'aime cette famille heureuse. They look like they are having a lot of fun playing in the water. Thanks for the comment on my geranium painting; it actually was a 'french' geranium that was sitting on a stone stairway in Provence somewhere, along with about 100 other clay pots full of them. Your bio says Wales, but your message says France! Lucky dog in either case!
Rusty Gladdish replied:
Merci beaucoup Mary Ellen! We are house sitters and before Covid we were house sitting in Provence for four months of the year for 8 years. We hope to be going back to la belle France .soon.
