Artist's Description

Marie Antoinette was a strong woman with tremendous control over her emotions. She has been much maligned and misunderstood. Born under the poweful and sometimes dark sign of Scorpio, she made the journey to France from her native Austria to become queen to a weak and needy king. So many cruel myths and distortions have been handed out in her name. The most notorious and well known was that she told the starving poor ' Let them eat cake!' This story first emerged a hundred years before the appearance of Marie Antoinette, and was credited to the Spanish princess who married Louis X1V. However, it's a great sound bite and too useful to lose!!

About Rusty Gladdish

Rusty Gladdish

I am a painter who writes stories and poems in between pictures. Painting began as a hobby, transmogrified into a therapy and finally emerged as an obssession. I am a self taught 'Outsider Artist' and an instinctive painter and colourist. I paint my dreams and whatever comes into my imagination. I also enjoy painting portraits. The whole of one's life is to be found in the face. The eyes and the mouth tell all. I have a passionate interest in art history and have been influenced by the Renaissance, Caravaggio, the much maligned Impressionists, the Fauvists (especially Matisse) and the Pre-Raphaelites ( to name but a few!!!). My paintings are hanging in private collections in America, Australia, France, Spain, Amsterdam, Turkey,...
